Gertie

Gertie has had a unique and meaningful journey, and she holds a very special place in our home. She began cycling early at five months of age, and because of that we monitored her closely with our veterinarian. At one year old,  she developed an open pyometra, a condition that can occur in intact females of any age. Thanks to prompt veterinary care and careful, round-the-clock monitoring, she responded well to treatment.

After she was fully cleared by our veterinarian, Gertie was bred during her next heat cycle. This was an intentional and recommended approach, as breeding promptly after recovery can help reduce the likelihood of pyometra returning. During that pregnancy she carried a single red tabby kitten, who, although deeply loved and awaited, was born still. This was a tender and emotional experience for our family, and it deepened our appreciation for the beauty and fragility of new life. We are grateful for what we learned through that season and for the compassion it strengthened in all of us.

After a second unsuccessful attempt at breeding and pyometra scare, we decided to spay Gertie. She has bonded closely with our daughter and is a valued member of our family!
